OPI Suzi Loves Cowboys

When I think cowboys, I think horses and leather.  And maybe a few other dirty things I shouldn't mention ;).  Suzi Loves Cowboys is from the OPI Texas collection from Spring 2011.

Cowboys is a brown creme with a red undertone kind of like the leather on some saddles.  It does dry just a little darker on the nail, but not very much.  Application was a little streaky and the formula is a little thin and sheer.  Because of this I needed 3 coats for full coverage.  I used Beauty Secrets base coat and Diamond Dry top coat.

Cowboys is a nice shade of brown, but nothing unique.

Zoya Gemma

Welcome to March!  Anyone else still on a sugar high from one of my favorite holidays?  That being Day After Valentine's Half Price Chocolate Day.  A few places in my town still have some decent stuff left that's now up to 75% off.  There's something about a $0.12 chocolate covered marshmallow heart I can't resist.
Another thing I can't resist is Zoya Gemma.  Gemma is probably the most unique color from the Intimate collection.  A soft slightly greyed leaf green with a blue shimmer.

Just looking at the bottle makes me happy.  Application was very nice, but I did feel the formula was just a tad on the thin side again.  Gemma is slightly less pigmented than most of the polishes in this collection and took me 3 coats for full even coverage.

Direct Sun
Can you see the pretty blue shimmer that's almost floating on top of the polish?

Shade

Indoor

That's it for the Intimate collection.  Gemma and Dannii are my personal faves.  The rest of the collection is lovely as well.  I would recommend the entire collection, but if you are only going to get one or two, make it Gemma and Dannii.
So now that you've seen all 6 polishes, which are your favs from Intimate?  Already have them?  What do you think of them?  Let me know below.

Zoya Marley

Who watched the Oscars last night?  There were some beautiful looks, and some rather strange ones too- I'm looking at you James Franco in the Marilyn Monroe get-up.  I want to see The King's Speech even more now.  I love Colin Firth.  More importantly, who stayed up to watch Kimmel afterwards?  That Toddlers & Tiaras spoof with Tom Hanks was priceless.  Especially the end when Ron Howard suddenly showed up.
And now for something completely different.  Well, different from the previous ramblings, not different from the normal content of this space.  Marley is the second purple in the Zoya Intimate collection.  This one is a soft lavender color which initially looks like a creme, but when you look closely has a subtle pearl finish to bring extra depth out of the polish.

As a reminder, with all the colors in this collection I used China Glaze Strong Adhesion base and Barielle Manicure Extender top.  Marley is nicely pigmented and only needed 2 coats for opacity.  No complaints about formula or application.  One complaint about my klutziness which led to a dent in my pinkie finger on the way outside to take photos.  Please ignore said dent.

Direct Sun
Click this photo to enlarge and see the soft pearl finish.

Shade

Indoor

Marley is a very lovely color, and I'm never the person to say you don't need a purple, but it's not a very unique color.  The pearl finish does give Marley an edge over other lavenders to me.

Zoya Dove

I never really thought I would be a fan of grey nail polish.  And then I tried Dove from the Zoya intimate collection.  Now I'm a convert.  Bring on the greys!!!!!!  And the trumpets, but that's something else entirely.  Side note, my husband does not find that commercial amusing at all.  I admit it's random, but it's just fun to me.  Back to the polish.  Dove is the perfect name for this color.  It's a soft grey creme, just like the color of a dove's feathers.

In the bottle you can just tell that this is grey and not white.  Formula and application were just what I expect from Zoya.  I used 2 coats to achieve full opacity.

Direct Sun

Shade

Indoor

On the nail though, there is no question that this is grey.  I was initially afraid this shade would make my hands look dead.  Luckily, this was not the case.  I think this is actually a very flattering color to my skin tone.
If you've never tried grey polish, this is good one to start with.  Very soft, nice pigmentation, smooth application.  What do you folks think?  Want to try grey polish now?  Already tried some?  What are your favorites?  Let me know which ones I should try.

Zoya Caitlin

I know, I know it's Sunday.  So what am I doing posting a polish review?  Well, between un-cooperative weather and a recent promotion at work that's led to more hours, and training stress, I have fallen very far behind on the new spring collections.  So in an effort to catch up and show you lovely people all the polish goodness I have for you, I will be doing some weekend polish posts for a little while.  If I can get enough edits and swatches done I may even try to do multiple posts on some days.
First up for you on these extra postings is Zoya Caitlin from the Intimate collection.  Caitlin is a dusty grey-purple creme.

This is a very hot color right now.  Caitlin is one of those colors that could easily change which color, grey or purple, is more dominant depending on your skin tone.  On me I feel it leans a little more purple, and we all know how I feel about purple.  Application was nice and only took 2 coats for full opacity.  The formula felt just a little on the thin side when I was applying.  Not so thin that it became a problem, just a touch thinner than I normally expect from Zoya.

Direct Sun

Shade

Indoor

As you can see from the direct sun photo, Caitlin dries a few shades darker on the nail than the bottle color.  Click on the shade photo to enlarge it.  Now look at how shiny that is.  If you look closely enough, you can see my camera reflected in my nails.  :O
If you don't already have a similar color, I would say Caitlin is a must have.  She's a nice modern yet classy color that grabs your attention.  What do you ladies think?

Zoya Jules

Chocolate dipped strawberries and champagne is probably one of the most romantic and decadent combinations possible.  While I'm not getting either for Valentine's most likely, it doesn't help that hubby hates champagne, hopefully some of you lovely ladies will.  But if not, at least you can get the feeling of champagne on your nails.
How you ask?  Simple.  Just try Jules, a lovely gold champagne metallic sparkle from the Zoya Intimate collection.   The glass-fleck sparkle reminds me a bit of bubbles in the light.

Jules was slightly sheer, so I needed 3 coats for full coverage.  Application was very nice with a good consistency to the formula.  Again with this polish, wipe in one direction only during removal to minimize sparkle left on your fingers.

Direct Sun

Shade

Indoor

Jules works well with my skin-tone, but is a little too similar in tone for me.  This feels close to mannequin hands, or at leaning that way.  And the mannequin hands look kinda freaks me out.  I'm sure this would look absolutely wonderful on many of you, or those of you who like the mannequin hands look.  For me, I think this will become a summer color when my skin isn't quite as pasty white.

Zoya Dannii

Why hello there Mr. Sun.  I've missed you so.  Please don't go away for so long again.  In case you can't tell, I finally had a sunny day today when I was off work.  So of course I ran outside to get some swatching action on.
This spring I'm noticing a trend towards soft muted colors on one end and bright bolds on the other.  At least that's what I'm seeing so far.
Zoya definitely went with the soft muted colors for their Spring Intimate collection.  Now I'm not normally a subdued nail color person, but I must say I am really liking this collection.  First up is Dannii, a lovely lilac/orchid purple with what I'm calling the new Zoya signature sparkle. I would not call her a neutral color, but she is a soft purple not a bright or bold purple.

Application was smooth, but I noticed some bubbling on my nails.  I did apply in a hurry, so that may explain the bubbling, but I'm not sure.  The bubbles were camouflaged fairly well by the sparkle, especially to the average eye from a distance.  Formula was nice as usual with Zoya.  With all the polishes in this collection, I will be using China Glaze Strong Adhesion base coat and Barielle Manicure Extender top coat unless otherwise noted.  For Dannii I used 2 coats to achieve opaque coverage.

Direct Sun

Shade

Indoor

The sparkle of Dannii really shows up in all lighting.  She pulls a little more red under artificial light and more blue under natural light.  But either way a very lovely medium purple.  Remember with removal to wipe your nails in only one direction to minimize the micro-glitter left on your fingers.

OPI Texas Collection and New Finish

Exciting news from OPI today.  Starting with their Spring/Summer Texas collection, OPI is introducing a new sorbet-like finish to their line up.  Check out the press releases for both below.

Deep in the Heart of Color

OPI Launches Texas Collection for Spring/
Summer 2011

OPI comes “home” to the USA with timeless style in the Texas Collection
for Spring/Summer 2011. These vivid shades are as iconic as images of an
American summer – adding a fresh, effortlessly chic look for nails and toes.
“Texas provided the inspiration for this season, with bright colors and
classic neutrals that draw from the American spirit,” says Suzi Weiss-Fischmann,
OPI Executive VP & Artistic Director. “Taking cues from the state’s naturally
beautiful backdrop, the Texas Collection features warm tones from honey and
tangerine to dazzling hues of violet and sky blue.”
This season, American classics come to life with sunny peach (Big
Hair…Big Nails) and vivid honeysuckle (Too Hot Pink to Hold ‘Em). Lush
berry (Houston We Have a Purple) and grassy green (Don’t Mess with OPI)
add a splash of the USA’s most vibrant colors to the season’s must-have neutrals
“The Texas Collection complements trends from the runway, where
white made an appearance as the new black,” explains Suzi. “Wearing these
colors on fingers and toes will accessorize the season’s must-have pieces – from
brightly colored botanical prints and filmy scarves to relaxed trousers and jackets
and fuller, longer skirts – all done in shades of white, ivory, cream and taupe.”
Texas Collection accompanies spring and summer fashion favorites with the following shades:

San Tan-tonio
A “honey” of a ten-gallon tan!

Suzi Loves Cowboys
But she loves this campfire chocolate shade s’more!

It's Totally Fort Worth It
A shimmery lavender grey that’s so worthy of you.

Don't Mess with OPI
A lean, mean, kick-grass forest green.

Cowgirls love this bodacious blue-green.

You won’t want to share this starry Texas-sky blue.

Y'all Come Back Ya Hear?
This Texas tangerine will be waitin’ for ya!

Big Hair...Big Nails
A rosy pageant peach.

Guy Meets Gal-veston
An “engaging” coastal coral.

Too Hot Pink to Hold 'Em
A red-hot pink-red that deals a winning hand.

Do You Think I'm Tex-y?
A “berry” sexy bloom of Dallas dahlia.

Houston We Have a Purple
A galactic red-violet that’s ready to “rocket roll”!

Turn on the Heat with Icy Finishes!

OPI Introduces New Sorbet-Style
Lacquers for Spring/Summer 2011

From the company that brought revolutionary nail textures like matte, suede,
and Black Shatter to women around the world, OPI announces a new special finish
– semi-transparent sorbet shades. Featured first in the Texas Collection by OPI
for Spring/Summer 2011, these lacquers give fingers and toes a lightly glossed
“These sorbet-style formulas for nails will be in full swing by 2012, but
women can get a jump start on this trend with colors in the Texas Collection,”
says Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI Executive VP & Artistic Director. “Unlike
thicker creams or light sheers, these twelve shades are slightly translucent –
similar to the look of icy, water-based sorbet!”
From sea blue and berry pink to tangerine and bright peach, the Texas
Collection features classic American colors. Designed to complement trends from
the runway, these candy-coated lacquers accessorize the season’s must-have
“To achieve the desired effect, an initial coat of Nail Lacquer should be
applied to all ten fingers first – without doubling up coverage,” explains Suzi. “Be
sure to start from the pinky finger on one hand and paint through to the pinky on
the other hand; then, after the first coat has dried, apply a second coat.”

OPI Nail Lacquer shades contain no DBP, Toluene, or Formaldehyde, and
each includes OPI’s exclusive ProWide™ Brush for the ultimate in application.
Texas Collection by OPI will be available February 2011, at Professional
Salons, including Beauty Brands, Beauty First, Chatters, Dillard’s, JCPenney,
Pure Beauty, Regis, Trade Secret, and ULTA, for $8.50 ($10.95 CAN) suggested
retail for each Nail Lacquer.

Zoya Intimate collection

Is it spring yet?  There's something about being snowed in in Georgia by a mere 5 inches of snow that's making me antsy for warm weather.  No I'm not scared of the snow, but the people who have never driven on snow and ice that are out on the roads terrify me.  And of course everything is closed anyway so there's really no reason to be out anyway.
So with the cold grey skies and white ground outside a peek at the new Zoya Spring collection is a welcome distraction.  I am really looking forward to this collection.  It's full of soft, delicate cremes and metallics that remind me of spring flowers.
