OPI Muppets Part 2 - The Glitters

Part 2 of the OPI Muppet Collection is The Glitters.  These are "Look at me! I'm shiny!" glitters.  Big, chunky, bold glitters.  With the exception of Excuse Moi!, all of these are a clear base with colored glitter and best used for layering over other polishes.
With all of these polishes I again used Beauty Secrets base coat and Diamond Dry top coat.  Because of the nature of these polishes I wanted to show them to you both alone and over other polishes.  And I wanted to be consistent about it.  So all pictures are 1 coat of just the polish on my pinkie, 2 coats of just the polish on my ring finger, 1 coat of the polish over 1 coat of WnW Black Creme on middle finger, and 1 coat of the polish over 2 coats of WnW White Creme on my index finger.  I did this with Excuse Moi! as well and am SO glad I did, but you'll see why soon.

Rainbow Connection

Rainbow Connection contains multiple sizes and multiple colors of hex glitters.  It is very reminiscent of Deborah Lippmann's Happy Birthday polish.  I don't own Happy Birthday to compare, but while they aren't dupes, the two are very similar.  Rainbow Connection's base is a bit thin so try to keep your brush strokes to a minimum or you'll wind up pulling all the glitter back off your nail.  Coverage is very sparse on the nail.

Fresh Frog of Bel-Air

Fresh Frog is of course mainly green.  It contains small green glitter and larger silver hex glitter sprinkled in.  Coverage is a little more dense than Rainbow and you could make it opaque eventually, but it would take lots of coats.

Divine Swine

Divine Swine is again a small colored glitter, this time a purple/fuchsia, with larger silver hex glitter.  I like the color a lot and application and formula were both nice.

Excuse Moi!

Excuse Moi! is the only polish in this half of the collection with a colored base.  It is a pink jelly base with large and small multi-colored hex glitter.  2 coats of Excuse Moi! by itself gives nice color and coverage, but personally I actually still like it better layered.  Over black.  Or maybe another dark color.  Layering over a dark color brings out the colors of the glitter more than just wearing the polish alone.  I was not a big fan of this one layered over white though.

Gettin' Miss Piggy With It

Piggy is a little different.  Which is fitting really for Miss Piggy.  On top of the candy apple red small glitter and large silver hex glitter, there is also matching large red hex glitter.  This gives a little more interest to the polish, but this was one of my least favorites of the glitters.  I think it's just the shade of red.

In case you're wondering about my thumb in these last two shots, I decided to play around a bit with a Christmas mani idea.  I started with a LA Colors silver foil then layered Fresh Frog and Piggy on top.  The look was fun, but not what I really wanted.

Gone Gonzo!

Gonzo is my favorite glitter in the collection.  It's a nice shade of blue that says Gonzo to me.  David thinks it's more Sam Eagle colored, but it's Gonzo to me.  The silver hex glitter mixed in reminds me of Gonzo in his Gonzo the Great Daredevil uniform.  This is also the most dense of the clear based glitters.  You could probably do 3 coats and be fairly opaque.

Final collection thoughts:  The two stand-outs for me are Designer...De Better and Warm & Fozzie.  Gone Gonzo and Excuse Moi are my glitter half picks, but still fall behind Designer and Warm.  Most of the rest of the collection is ok, but just nothing super special or unique.  The one big disappointment is Pepe's Purple Passion.  SO much potential that just doesn't translate.  I LOVE the Muppets so I wanted to LOVE this collection, but I'm mostly just meh about it.  After some of the recent glitters OPI has come out with, I expected more from the ones in this collection.

  1. Gonzo is by far my favorite of the glitters, I think. Rainbow Connection would probably be second.

  2. After checking out your swatches, I think I will be ordering "Excuse Moi!" over "Gettin' Miss Piggy With It".
